If you walked up to a stranger on the street and asked them for $20, odds are they’re going to look at you like you're crazy and walk away. I cannot blame them; I’d do the same. Now… what if, instead, you engaged them in conversation, swapped contact information, developed a friendship over the course of many weeks, and THEN asked for $20? You might have a better shot.
Well, in some ways, email marketing is a lot similar. People are much more likely to support a cause that they are familiar with and trust. So, with that in mind, it might be time to consider how we can be building trust with our subscribers so that we see the most possible success with our emails.
This means that we need to provide content that makes the recipient feel valued as opposed to just another donor. Before we ask for money and support, we need to show the subscriber how much they matter to us; that we do not just care about their wallets.
So what kind of content can we send out that would align with this goal of building trust? I have a few ideas…

- These emails can be used to inform your recipients on your mission and the news you find most important. Subscribers will be able to see how their values align with your own and, in turn, may acquire more support for your cause.
Feedback
- Do not be afraid to ask your subscribers about their opinions. Whether you need advice on how to go about things or you’d like to know what you can do better in the future, your recipients should be the first people you ask. Their opinions matter most!
Prospecting
- Sometimes the easiest way we can appeal to our subscribers is to ask them what they care to hear about. Our Nucleus CRM allows us to quickly tag our recipients so we can be ensuring we are reaching out to them with their interests in mind.

Event Hosting 101 with Campaign Nucleus

At Nucleus, we pride ourselves on being the ultimate command center for all your campaign and organizational operations. Whether you need help with targeting your audience through marketing emails, hosting events, managing volunteers, tracking donors and stakeholders, or more—we've got you covered. We know Nucleus offers a lot of powerful features, so to get you started on your Nucleus journey, we've crafted this simple guide to help you promote and create an event. Feel free to customize this template to fit your needs!
Creating Your Event
Start by creating your event in Nucleus. Choose the event date, time, location, and any custom fields you may need. We recommend enabling the 'Calendar Option' under 'Advanced Settings' so your attendees can easily save the date.
You can also enable 'Signup Mail' in 'Advanced Settings,' which will automatically send a confirmation email to your attendees with the event details and your personalized message.
Once the event is set up, head to the 'Event Overview' page. Here, you'll find your event's link and QR code to share (more on that later), and you can track signups, manage staff, and more. With 'Event Communications,' you can easily send emails or texts to your attendees about important updates like parking, timing, or other logistical information, all without leaving the Events module.
Day of the Event
When the big day arrives, you can use the 'Event Signup' tabs to check in guests, manage staff assignments, and track special categories such as VIPs or media attendees.
**Pro Tip:** Create a 'CRM Tag' in Tag Manager to track your attendees in event signups. You can use this tag later in email or text campaigns for follow-ups and future engagements.
Spreading the Word with Emails
Now that your event page is live, it's time to promote it. Start by creating an email campaign to notify potential attendees and encourage them to sign up. In your email, link images and buttons, or copy the links directly to your event page using the live link from your 'Event Overview.'
**Pro Tip:** Use the CRM tag you created for your event signups to segment your email list. This way, you can send targeted emails leading up to the event, increasing excitement and providing more details. You can even encourage attendees to share the event with others.
Promoting with Texts and P2P
Depending on your integrations, you can also use Text or P2P messaging to promote your event. Include the live QR code from your event or share the event link directly in the message so recipients can easily sign up. In these messages, you can provide more event details, announce special guests, or update your audience on ticket availability to boost engagement.
Automating the Process
Need to manage multiple tasks for your event? Use 'Automate' to create workflows that streamline your event planning. Set up automation triggers based on event signups to send emails, tag attendees, and handle other tasks automatically. This ensures you don't miss a step and saves you valuable time. You can even set up post-event automation to thank attendees, send surveys for feedback, or promote upcoming events.

So what is P2P messaging, and why should we care? This blog will explain P2P text messaging, how it works, and why you should take advantage of it!

LET’S TALK ABOUT AUTOMATION
How to clean your recipient list without doing ANYTHING…
Have you ever wanted to send out routine emails without going through the trouble of setting up a whole new email and the appropriate recipient audience over & over & over again?
Well… you may have heard of Nucleus’ fun new automation series feature & this may just be the answer you’ve been looking for!
This feature allows you to select a trigger & design a whole series of emails that recipients who fall in that triggers category will receive.
Currently, some triggers we have available within Nucleus and their uses are:
- When a user subscribes
- This trigger allows us to routinely email new subscribers to our lists
- When a user has opened an email
- This trigger allows us to re-engage with users who have recently engaged with another email
Some more triggers include:
If a profile has a tag
If a user is on a list
If email is clicked
If email is converted
Signed up for an event
When an event ends
Purchases/Donations
Form signups
Now, I want to take some time to discuss 2 automation series that can help to improve your deliverability if used properly.
Before we jump in, I want to reiterate the importance of QUALITY > QUANTITY when it comes to our recipient email lists. Automation series’ can help us to unsubscribe unengaged or expired emails & it is key to remember that this is an advantage and not a weakness; recipients who do not engage with your emails are a waste of money and can actually hurt your deliverability.
Anyways, the two most important series you can utilize within your email marketing techniques is:
- Welcome Series
- Re-engagement Series
These 2 types of series offer very different and irreplaceable value to your marketing endeavors. Let’s review some of the functionality that they provide.
A welcome series should be used to introduce “yourself” & your mission. This is a time for you to confirm that someone intended to subscribe to your list. If they didn’t mean to, this gives them time to unsubscribe rather than complain to email serves about your messages later. This is also a great time to locate recipient interests and pre-empt them on what type of content they will be receiving & how often.
A re-engagement series should be used to locate your disinterested and expired subscriber emails. People’s interests change & so do their emails. For these reasons, it is important to check in from time to time with your less engaged emails. In many cases, people will set a series of emails that recipients who have not opened or clicked an email in a certain amount of days will go through. I usually recommend 180 days, but that can be made a longer or shorter period of time, depending on what you and your marketing team think is best.

Building up your Email Subscribers Without Breaking Down your Domain

When it comes to expanding your email subscriber list for marketing content, remember that QUALITY OVER QUANTITY is not just a saying but a strategy that can empower your marketing efforts. By focusing on quality, you ensure that your messages reach the right audience, increasing the chances of engagement and conversion.
I understand the temptation to construct a list of millions of people to ensure your marketing success, BUT without the correct methods of email collection, you can actually hurt your success rather than help.
Let’s talk about why…
Recipients who do not wish to be emailed often respond negatively to emails, even when you are careful to avoid common spam triggers within your content. This can mean that they report you as spam or notify the server that they do not wish to receive your email; this can cause blocks & lower our domain/IP reputation. If they choose to delete without opening or refuse to engage (opening, clicking, saving in folders, etc.) with the email, it can also have poor consequences. That tells the server that they are not interested in your content, and it can hurt your inbox placement, even with previously engaging emails.
DO… subscribe users who have signed onto your email list on their own will
**feel free to even offer them the opportunity to confirm their subscription
DON’T… offer incentives, such as prizes, for people to sign up
**Subscribers rarely engage long-term with this route of email collection
DO… regularly sort through and unsubscribe unengaged recipients
**If they aren’t helping your cause, they are hurting it
DON’T… purchase email lists
**These lists often include duplicate, invalid, expired, or foreign emails that likely have no interest in supporting your cause

HTML, everyone’s favorite universal language

The absolute coolest thing, among many other impressive things, about HTML coding is that it is almost a completely universal language. This means it can be understood by anyone who comprehends the code, regardless of its origins.
In short, the coding will be compatible with any content platform, no matter where it comes from. And, yes, that does mean you can use any other HTML-coded documents from past-used systems in the Nucleus platform.
There is one catch, though… Many email marketing platforms find value in the use of variables to pull custom information within the HTML as it helps to reach people on a more individual level… without having to manually send thousands of customized emails. Examples of this custom data would be a recipient’s first name or email, and other bits of personal information.
In these cases, the variable codes may differ slightly between platforms. That simply means that it is important to find and replace any variables with the proper ones so they function properly.
For instance, on Nucleus, we use the following variables very frequently:

PROTIP: you can actually find these located at the bottom of our html-coding-email-builder function:

These are very incredible tools as they can be crucial to your marketing technique but it is important to always remember to use the codes that are compatible with your platform.
This prevents us from sending wonky subject lines like “Hello, %%FIRSTNAME%%!”
These variables are usually very similar to the ones you are using, so just locate and replace any that you found. Most platforms, like our own Nucleus, will not even let you send when there is an error in the variables or coding so hopefully you will not encounter this issue anytime soon…
For example, just for the first name variable, I’ve seen some of the following variable codes:
- %recipient.first%
- %%FIRSTNAME%%
- %NAME%
- {{RECIPIENT.FIRST}}
…and there are way more than that! Always be on the lookout!
